What We Treat
Who is a Candidate for hip surgery?
Surgery is recommended based on the patient's pain and disability, rather than age. Although most total hip replacement patients are between 50 and 80 years old, Dr. Max evaluates each patient individually.
Successful total hip replacement procedures have been performed on all age groups, from young adolescents with juvenile arthritis to elderly patients with degenerative arthritis.

Hip Arthritis
Osteoarthritis, the most common type of hip arthritis, typically affects individuals over 50 or those with a family history. It occurs when the cartilage cushioning the hip joint wears down, causing pain and stiffness. In some cases, developmental differences from childhood can contribute to joint degeneration. When symptoms become severe, joint replacement surgery may offer significant relief.
Proper preparation for surgery, maintaining good bone health, managing obesity, and following a balanced diet can all play a key role in symptom control and long-term recovery.
