Understanding the procedure
What is a Knee Artroscopy?
A knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery that lets the orthopedic surgeon diagnose and treat problems inside the knee through small incisions. A thin camera (arthroscope) projects detailed images of cartilage, ligaments, and the meniscus, while specialized instruments allow the repair, removal, or reconstruction of damaged tissue.
It can address issues like meniscus tears, ligament injuries, cartilage damage, inflammation, or loose fragments. With smaller incisions than open surgery, knee arthroscopy causes less tissue trauma, leading to reduced pain, minimal scarring, and faster recovery. It’s usually done on an outpatient basis under anesthesia, and most patients go home the same day.
